Bonjour !
Two months ago, I went to Africa, to Cameroun. I was there to prepare the
X Maleya concert in Paris at L'Olympia. This concert took place last week.
Il y a deux mois, je suis parti une semaine en Afrique, au Cameroun. Dans le but de préparer le concert du groupe X Maleya qui a eu lieu la semaine dernière à l'Olympia de Paris.
We can be proud of it no ?
Il y a de quoi être fier non ?
I will talk about this show in a next post with some pictures and videos, but now here are some pictures of my week in Cameroun !
Je vous parlerai du concert dans un prochain article, quelques photos à l'appui. Mais pour le moment, voici quelques photos de ma semaine au Cameroun !
Let's start with some landscape pictures, unfortunately there aren't a lot.
Et on commence forcément par des clichés du paysage, il n'y en a malheureusement pas beaucoup.
There, the earth is red, on this point it reminds me of Australia and my shoes were red a long time after I came back to France. In this country the roads are made of big holes and earth with sometimes a little part of asphalt.
Là bas, la terre est rouge, ça m'a un peu rappelé l'Australie pour ça, et mes chaussures s'en sont souvenues un bon moment après mon retour, faut dire que sur la route la bas, au milieu des trous et de la terre, il y a juste un peu de macadam.
All these pictures were taken next to the place where we slept during our stay. I have to admit that it's difficult to be a white guy with a big DSLR camera in his hands. The only time I tried to walk around and take some pictures, after ten minutes I was brought to the police station in front of an officier trying to explain what I was doing with my camera.
Toutes ces photos on été prises juste à coté de l'endroit ou on logeait, il faut avouer que là bas, c'est pas facile de se balader avec un reflex numérique et de mitrailler le paysage, et spécialement quand on est blanc, la seule fois où j'ai essayé, il m'a pas fallu dix minutes pour me retrouver à devoir expliquer ce que je faisais dans le poste de police le plus proche.
I still was able to take a picture of Yaoundé.
J'ai quand même pu prendre une vue de Yaoundé.
And also a picture by night as usual.
Et même une photo de nuit comme à mon habitude.
Despite my photographic restrictions, I spent a wonderful week there with a lot of nice people and unforgettable moments.
I was there as a video maker to shoot some footages of
X Maleya for their concert in Paris.
Malgré les restrictions photographiques, j'ai passé une semaine extraordinaire remplie de rencontres formidables et de moments inoubliables.
J'étais venu là bas pour réaliser quelques vidéos avec le groupe X Maleya pour leur concert à Paris, donc c'est plus comme vidéaste que j'ai officié la bas.
Our visit at Roger Milla's house for a video Interview of him talking about the band (and yes, I took one picture with him ^^) and our meeting with the contestants of Miss Cameroun beauty pageant.
Notre petite visite chez Roger Milla pour une interview vidéo de lui parlant du groupe (oui, je me suis gardé une photo ^^) et notre rencontre avec les candidates à l'élection de Miss Cameroun.
We were guests during the moring program "Bonjour" on
CRTV to talk about the show in Paris.
Nous sommes même passés à la télé en Interview dans "Bonjour" la matinale de CRTV pour parler du concert à L'Olympia.
For the magical moments, I will never forget this video shooting with some drum players around a fire camp.
Pour les moments magiques, filmer des joueurs de tambours en tenue traditionnelle à la lueur d'un feu la nuit était mémorable.
But finally it was as a photographer that I ended this week with a studio photoshoot of the band.
J'ai tout de même terminé le séjour comme photographe avec un shoot du groupe en studio.
Even if I dont have pictures to show, I cant end without talking a bit about food in Cameroun !
With Soya skewer I learned that it was possible to have raw and fatty chicken.
I ate snake, a very big one that I dont want to meet in real life ! I also ate some grilled worms, It wasnt so bad and crispy with that, but it is not so easy to eat that, it's a psychologic problem.
Even if I really liked that after one week I cannot see a cooked banana again.
The food from Cameroun is really good but as I can see there is not a lot of different tastes, and it's a little bit sad.
Même si je n'ai pas de photos, je ne peux pas terminer sans parler de la nourriture au Cameroun !
Avec les brochettes de Soya, j'ai découvert que parfois même le poulet pouvait être gras et saignant.
J'ai mangé de la vipère, et à la vue de la taille de la bête, je n'aimerais pas la croiser vivante. Les vers grillés c'était pas mauvais non plus et craquant sous la dent avec ça, mais c'est pas facile d'en manger psychologiquement parlant.
Même si je trouvais ça très bon, après ma semaine là bas, je ne pouvais plus voir les bananes plantains en peinture.
La nourriture Camerounaise était vraiment bonne, mais de ce que j'ai pu en voir, on en à vite fait le tour, et c'est un peu dommage.
Ultimate advice to foreign people who want to go there : NEVER DRINK TAP WATER !
And be careful with sodas when there arent served in a bottle, they can be made with tap water and when you arent used to that, it can be dangerous (I know because I had some problems with that).
Conseil ultime aux étrangers qui se rendraient la bas : NE JAMAIS BOIRE L'EAU DU ROBINET !
Et faites aussi attention aux sodas s'ils ne sont pas en bouteille, ils peuvent être faits avec l'eau du pays, et quand on est pas habitué, ça peut être dangereux (je sais je l'ai vécu !).

It was one of the most exotic trip I ever did. There are a lot of things to say about it but I miss some pictures to illustrate what I say. I will go there again, so I will try to take more pictures than the first time.
Ce fut un des voyages les plus dépaysants que je n'ai jamais fait, il y aurait encore beaucoup à raconter, mais je manque de photos pour illustrer tout ça, mais comme j'y retournerais sûrement, j'essaierai de rattraper le coup.
